Relics of the Ancient Roman Empire: The Glory of Rome and the Tragedy of Pompeii

Exhibit Outline

This Roman Empire exhibit, unprecedented in scale and content, revisits and explores the period around the time of the first emperor Augustus, progressing with the empire from its birth to the height of its prosperity, by examining the magnificent murals, sculpture, and other works of art from the day. All works on display are famous pieces selected carefully from prized Italian collections, including gorgeous murals of Pompeii, valiant sculptures of the great men of Rome, and luxuriant jewelry pieces. The exhibit also includes some of the latest findings of a team from the University of Tokyo which carried out an excavation at the base of Mount Vesuvius starting in 2002. The remains of the dwellings of Pompeii have been recreated using state-of-the-art computer graphics that are so realistic you will feel as if you are actually standing there.
These splendid relics from one of the greatest empires in history are making their way to Aomori!
